Kujh nahi banana sun lai bande chahe karam kamai ja; Punn daan tun lakkhan kar lai maya khoob lutai ja. Kujh nahin banana paththhran agge matthe chahe ghasai ja; Ratti bhar vi fayda nahin ey chahe tal kharhkai ja. Chaurasi lakh joon ton banda edan sakda bach nahin; Kahe avtar kise na lekhe jekar bujhya sach nahin. |

Listen O' man, you may go on performing religious practices, but all this shall be of no
avail; You may make millions of offerings in the name of deities, and squander any amount of wealth. Nothing shall be achieved even if you keep on bowing before the stones; It is of no use at all, if you keep on ringing the bells. One cannot escape the cycles of birth and death by all these means; Avtar says, all these methods are of no avail, if you have not understood the Truth. |
Meaning
In this verse, Shehenshah Baba Avtar Singh Ji explains that nothing we do is useful until we attain God-Knowledge (know Nirankar). Baba Ji says you will not get anything no matter what you do, whether it is spending a lot of money on charity (helping the poor and needy) or rubbing your head against idols of stones and ringing bells at temples. By doing such things man cannot be saved from the circle of life and death. Baba Ji says only when we attain God-Knowledge shall our deeds become useful and our life purposeful.
